Asbestos Management Surveys, Asbestos Refurbishment & Demolition Surveys
Jenkins Environmental is UKAS accredited to undertake asbestos surveys. Under HSE Guidance Note HSG 264, there are now only two types of asbestos survey, the management survey and the refurbishment /demolition survey.
These used to be referred to as:
Type 1) Presumptive survey.
Type 2) Sampling survey, identification and assessment.
Type 3) Pre-demolition and major refurbishment survey - full access, sampling and identification.
The type 1 and type 2 surveys having been amalgamated as the new management survey.
Management Asbestos Survey
The purpose of a management asbestos survey is to locate and identify the presence of asbestos within buildings. By locating the asbestos we can prevent the likes of trades people such as electricians and plumbers from inadvertently disturbing the material when drilling, for instance.
When an asbestos survey takes place we survey all areas and materials within a building that are suspected of containing asbestos. The position and state of these materials is catalogued as part of the survey and materials that are suspected to be, or that contain, asbestos are sent away to be analysed
Jenkins Environmental provide asbestos surveys wherever they are required throughout the East Midlands area within the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
Refurbishment and Demolition Survey
This type of survey is carried out, as the name suggests, when a major refurbishment is planned or a building is due to be demolished.
The survey is used to locate and catalogue, all asbestos containing materials in the area where the refurbishment work will take place or in the whole building if demolition is planned. The survey will be fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach. A refurbishment and demolition survey may also be required in other circumstances, e.g. when more intrusive maintenance and repair work will be carried out or for plant removal or dismantling.
